Long Canyon Trail to Deer Lake Description

This adventure would make a great addition to any intrepid adventurers or experienced hikers’ to-do lists. Explore the high country and marvel at the gorgeous alpine scenery along the way. Note that much of this route is rocky and uneven, so a pair of sturdy footwear is a must! Additionally, as the path weaves between tree shade and exposed terrain, we encourage hikers to dress in layers as insurance against changing conditions.

Setting out from the Long Canyon Trailhead, the Long Canyon Trail to Deer Lake follows the Long Canyon Trail northwest along the East Fork Stuart Creek. Wander this path through the forested canyon and let the sounds of the gurgling waters soothe you. Eventually, you will reach an intersection, and keep right, navigating a set of switchbacks. The further you progress into the wilderness, the more sparse will the tree canopy become, weaving between the forest and exposed meadowlands. You will ultimately reach the trail’s end at the Deer Creek Pass; veer right here onto the Deer Creek Trail.

Follow this route up to Deer Lake, a beautiful alpine pool bound by the bluffs of Siligo Peak. Admire the grandeur of the encompassing mountains and the sight of the crystalline waters. When you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
