Planning a trip to Canada’s West Coast? Want to avoid the crowds? Head to Strathcona Provincial Park on Vancouver Island – a bit of a locals secret! Known as the Island Alps, you’ll be surprised by this mini chain of mountains and lakes. Strathcona is primarily untouched, wilderness - a true nature lovers paradise!

Due to the coastal climate, you can technically visit the park anytime of the year, but we prefer to go in the summer when things are generally drier. In terms of where to stay and eat, the park itself only has a few options. However, the surrounding towns of Campbell River, Comox, and Mount Washington offer many more choices, and as long as you have a car to get into the park they are great places to stay. Of course, you can also camp, there are ample opportunities to do so throughout the park and surrounding area.

The majority of Strathcona is largely untouched wilderness, which makes a holiday to Strathcona Provincial Park a perfect escape into nature. There are plenty of hiking trails throughout the park, which can take you deep into the lush forest of coastal British Columbia. In fact, the only way to reach the tallest waterfall in Canada, Della Falls, is to hike – there are no roads. You can also choose between other adventures besides hiking. There is great cycling and a wide variety of water sports, such as swimming, canoeing and paddling.

We love a trip to Strathcona Provincial Park!
