The Lake District National Park is quite simply stupendous. We here at 10Adventures love walking in the UK, and the Lake District is really the cherry on top, especially in spring, when it isn’t as crowded, and the flowers are blooming! Named after the pretty lakes that dot the area, the highlights are definitely the stunning mountains, valleys and villages that make this one of our favourite places on earth! High praise indeed – but well earned.

Located in NW England, the Lake District encompasses all the land within England that rises above 2953ft! The Lake District is not just beautiful, but also cultural and historical – you can still find the locals practicing techniques of sheep raising that have been in place for thousands of years. A day out will take you past traditional working farms and a meal in a local pub or restaurant will let you sample the great products of this wonderful area.

A trip to the Lake District is a perfect outdoor getaway, especially for hiking, mountain biking and road biking. We love heading to the Lake District for some early season hiking in April or May. The weather is, of course, a bit cooler than the summer months but the crowds are down, and the views are still as stunning! If you get a few days without rain you will be in heaven. On the days when it pours, find a cozy pub, a good book and enjoy village life.

Another fantastic and more obvious way to explore the Lake District is by water. Rent a canoe or kayak and spend your days paddling along one of the famous lakes in the area.

This is the UK’s most popular national park for a reason, so if you are planning a trip to the UK be sure to include a trip to the Lake District!
