Located on the California coast, the Redwoods National and State Parks see relatively mild conditions—warranting year-round adventures. The summer months are undoubtedly the most popular time for camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and prime for water recreation. Swim in the chilly waters of the Pacific Ocean, rent a sea kayak, or try your hand at rainbow trout in the streams that intersect the redwood groves. The opportunities for outdoor pursuits are numerous, satisfying every type of explorer.

The Redwoods National and State Parks is home to some of the world’s tallest trees, offering arguably the most magical forests on the continent. Residing in Northern California along the Pacific Coast, the area encompasses a total of one National Park and three State Parks: Redwood National Park and Del Norte Coast, Jedediah Smith, and Prairie Creek State Parks. Covering 139,000 acres of land, containing primeval temperate rainforests and rugged coastline—the stark topographic contrast makes a wonderful natural playground for adventure travelers to indulge.

In 1980, the United Nations designated the park a World Heritage Site and, in 1983, part of the International Biosphere Reserve in recognition of the region's rare biodiversity and rich cultural history. Ever since the protected environment has drawn visitors from around the globe eager to explore some of the oldest and tallest trees in the world. Today, the Redwoods National and State Parks are abundant with scenic nature trails that reveal the grandeur of old-growth redwoods and exhibit the diversity of the area’s native flora and fauna.

Additionally, as The Redwoods National and State Parks emit an other-worldly primordial ambiance, the parks have been the setting for a few Hollywood movies. Explore the Fern Canyon Loop Trail, which was a filming location for the 1997 film—The Lost World: Jurassic Park, or the Cheatham Grove Trail, where scenes of the 1983 film, Return of the Jedi were shot. No matter what you do, which trail you tackle, or the time of year you visit, the enchanting scenery in the Redwoods National and State Parks will not disappoint.
