Julian Alps

Region in Slovenia
Julian Alps Map

If you are planning a trip to Slovenia, then add the Julian Alps to your must-do list! In the north-western corner of Slovenia, they are part of the Southern Limestone Alps range, which includes the Dolomites just over the border in Italy. A trip here can combine wonderful hiking, cycling, trekking and of course, eating!

The Julian Alps cover Triglav National Park, one of Europe’s oldest national parks. Triglav National Park is the only national park in Slovenia, however covers 4% of its total landmass. The park is part of a larger UNESCO World Heritage biosphere encompassing much of the entire range of the Julian Alps. The goal of the biosphere is to preserve the diversity of the landscape while working with the inhabitants of the area to create sustainable uses for the land.

The Julian Alps are an impressive section of the Southern Limestone range. Like most of the European Alps, the Julian Alps provide unlimited fun all year long for anyone seeking outdoor adventure. Boasting 16 ski resorts, if you are after winter fun you are sure to find one to suit your needs. Summer months are complimented with innumerable options for hiking or walking trails.

It is not just the adventure that draw us here though! We love the culture, beauty, and variety that Slovenia has to offer. The history of the region is long and extremely interesting. Did you know the area was named after Julius Caesar? We also love to spend some time visiting the museums or older sites such as breathtaking Lake Bled and Bled Castle.

Whatever your reason for visiting Slovenia, the Julian Alps should not be missed!
