Uinta Mountains Map

The Uinta Mountains, about 75 minutes east of Salt Lake City, are too often overshadowed by the more prominent mountains closer to the capital. This is a shame, as the hiking from Highway 150, also known as the Mirror Lake Highway, is spectacular. If you’re planning a holiday in Utah, plan to spend a few days in the High Uintas!

With all the beauty in Utah, it’s understandable that a place like the Uinta Mountains are not well known. There are simply so many incredible places throughout the state that many often overlook these stunning landscapes.

We love the hiking here, and the beautiful mountain lakes, stunning mountains and great trails make it a no-brainer for those that want to get away from the Utah crowds. Backpacking in the Uintas is sublime, and don’t be surprised if you’re the only one there.

The key to the Uintas is the stunning Mirror Lake Highway, which gives you access to this region. While the highway is great for hike access, it also makes a wonderful road bike ride, offering great views and a lot of climbing.

If you’re thinking of a trip to the Uintas but want a bit of luxury, consider staying in Park City or Deer Valley, luxury mountain resorts roughly 1 hour west.
