The Mill Lake Loop is a charming lakeside circuit in Abbotsford that travels around the edge of Mill Lake and provides multiple viewpoints for spotting local wildlife. This 1.4mi trail passes by the numerous picnic areas that can be found within the park and offer the perfect place for taking in the waterside atmosphere. This trail is predominantly on easy terrain, making it perfect for hikers of all skill levels and ages.

Getting there

To access the parking lot on the north side of Mill Lake from South Fraser Way in Abbotsford, head east on South Fraser Way and turn right onto Bourquin Crescent. After 1148ft, turn right onto Mill Lake Road and follow it for another 1148ft to arrive at the parking area.

Mill Lake Loop Trail Description

The Mill Lake Loop is a popular hiking/walking route in the heart of Abbotsford that skirts around Mill Lake and offers access to other amenities in the park, such as picnic area and washroom facilities, as well as the chance to watch some of the local wildlife. The trail traverses an easy stretch of terrain and contains almost no changes in elevation, making this route a perfect option for both families and hikers of all skill levels. Parking for this trail can become limited, so you should either arrive early to beat the crowds or utilize one of the alternate parking lots that can be found along the edges of the park.

Setting out from the parking area on the northern edge of Mill Lake, follow the trail in a counterclockwise direction toward the picnic areas. After coming around the southwest corner of the lake you will have to cross over a creek before continuing along the edge of the water. The southern and eastern shores of the lake provide several viewpoints from which hikers can look out over the water and spot a variety of local bird and animal species. Continue along the north side of Mill Lake to return to the starting point of your hike, where you can either enjoy the beautiful lakeside atmosphere or return to your parked car.
