Franklin Ghost Town Trail Trail Description

The Franklin Ghost Town Trail is a fun adventure that can be combined with a hike to a nearby waterfall and river. Note that the falls trail is on private property and there is a fee to use it. This hike is mostly uphill to the ghost town, so be prepared for a consistent, gentle incline.

From the trailhead parking lot, there are three trails. The longest trail goes to the cemetery, the midlength trail goes to the river, and the shortest trail goes straight to the waterfall. All three can be explored in one go. To get to the Ghost Town, keep right to avoid the trails that go to the falls and the river. At the ghost town site, keep left to continue on to the site of a mineshaft and the coal cart line. From here, turn around.

If you want to go to the river and the falls, take a right down the intersecting paths. If not, continue straight back to the trailhead.

Insider Hints

  • There have been reports of incorrect charges to visitors in the area by the owners of the private property. The state trails are free, but you’ll need to pay $5 per person to access the private parking lot and waterfall trail. Please bring cash as reports of overcharging on credit cards are somewhat frequent.
