Thayne Canyon Loop Description

The Thayne Canyon Loop is a gorgeous hike just east of Salt Lake City. This trail may be short, but the terrain is steep and loose, which makes this hike moderately challenging. Dogs are allowed to join you on this trail and are allowed off-leash on odd days of the month but must be kept on leash on even-numbered days. The Thayne Canyon loop is a perfect place to go for a forest walk with the pup; the trail is well maintained and provides beautiful mountain views the whole way. For a wonderful hike, try this trail in early autumn when the fall colors of the forest are out in full force.

Take the path on the left from the trailhead to hike the trail clockwise. Follow the Thayne Canyon Trail for about half a mile to a divide. Take a right at this divide, quickly followed by another right to head back to the trailhead along the Desolation Trail.

If you are looking for a more challenging hike in the area, check out the Thayne Canyon Trail that leads you to the top of Thayne Peak.
