The Hob Hole and Baysdale Circular Walk is a great route in North York Moors National Park that features beautiful views and a low amount of foot traffic, allowing for some solitude along the trail. While out walking this route, you will climb uphill across a barren stretch of moor and experience breathtaking views that sweep across the park. Sections of this walk can be extremely boggy, making proper footwear a necessity.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Hob Hole and Baysdale Circular Walk from Castleton, head west on Dibble Bridge Bank for 2.1mi and turn left on Hob Hole. Follow this for 0.3mi to find the car park on the right.

Hob Hole and Baysdale Circular Walk Description

While they may be a desolate, rugged, and exposed place, the moors are also breathtakingly beautiful and offer a great chance to reconnect with nature. The Hob Hole and Baysdale Circular Walk is a great example of a fun trail through the North York Moors that will expose you to the elements and some rough landscapes, but will also allow you to create lasting memories.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the west along Baysdale Beck, eventually turning to the southwest to pass through the small hamlet of Baysdale. From here, you will head south and climb uphill across the rugged landscape of the moor, enjoying views across the barren terrain and the Grain Planting forest below. After crossing over Grain Beck, you will turn to the northeast and traverse the moor, descending the hillside until you arrive back at the trailhead where you began.
