Crystal Peak Trail Description

The view from Crystal Peak is worth every ounce of energy it’ll take you to get there, we promise. This hike in Mount Rainier National Park may be challenging, but the payoff is generous, with fantastic sightlines over Crystal Mountain, Sourdough Gap, Shriner Peak, and more. The first portion of the trail is unremarkable, but just keep going!

The Crystal Peak Trail begins from an unsigned trailhead on the left side of Highway 410. You’ll cross a stream and immediately begin gaining elevation. Switchback through the trees to a junction at 1.5mi. Go right here.

The trail briefly levels out before rising onto a talus slope where you’ll enjoy a peek of the mountains. Back in the forest, continue climbing for another mile. You’ll then break into a scenic meadow, which will be full of wildflowers during the summertime.

You’ll have views of Rainier to admire as you slog up switchbacks to the peak. The last portion of the trail is even steeper, but you’ll be handsomely rewarded with six mountains to admire from the top.

When you’ve snapped enough photos, descend following the same route.
