Sections of Conness Lake from Saddlebag Lake Trail are not along designated Inyo National Forest pathways, so it is recommended that you bring some sort of mapping tool with you to aid in wayfinding throughout the route. Likewise, Conness Lake from Saddlebag Lake Trail’s distance and elevation incline likely make it not appropriate for beginner hikers and families with younger children.

With your vehicle parked, locate the trailhead. Follow the Saddlebag Lake Loop trail as it makes its way north along the western shore of Saddlebag Lake. When almost at the northern shore of the lake, the trail will west deviate from the shoreline and arrive at the smaller Greenstone Lake. Having passed Greenstone Lake to the south, the trail will veer northwards, picking up elevation as it goes.

After climbing a steep inclined section, the Conness Lake from Saddlebag Lake Trail will plateau before delivering you the Conness Lakes. The lakes can be explored in a number of ways, so take your time and check out as many – or as few – as you would like to. Once you have had an opportunity to take in the scenery, backtrack your steps towards the trailhead and your waiting vehicle.
