Hiking the Beartrack Lakes Trail will lead to not one, not two, but four small shimmering alpine lakes! I mean what more could you ask for? Travel up the paths between the Truesdell and Beartrack creeks, through burn, past vast meadows and to up the lakes. This demanding trek up the ridges of the Front Range is not for the faint of heart. Climb up the trail and ascend great altitudes to the lakes, but revel in the impressive scenery from atop the mountain cirque.

Beartrack Lakes Hike Description

Hike the Beartrack Lakes Loop through the Mount Evans Wilderness. This challenging hike will push you out of your comfort zone as you climb the increasingly steep trail to the crystalline alpine lakes. Reserved for more experienced hikers, this path will exhaust you. Make sure you bring plenty of water or a water filter to stay hydrated along this adventure. Additionally, when you ascend the treeline, you can expect cold and windy weather. Wearing layers and a windbreaker is a good insurance against the inclement weather. Note that this area is subject to seasonal closures based on hunting seasons. Check the State website and the trailhead for indicators that the trail is open to hikers prior to setting out.

Begin your adventure up the Beartrack Lakes Trail from the Camp Rock Trailhead. From the trailhead, track southeast on the Beartrack Lakes Trail. Hike up the wooded path and through the burn that remains from the 1998 Beartrack Fire. Ascend the burn and continue climbing up the trail as it merges with Truesdell Creek. Soon you will encounter a steep ridge, navigate the switchbacks, and mind your footing on the steep terrain. Trek up the path and you will eventually merge with the Club Creek Trail just prior to the lakes. Explore the small Beartrack Lakes and step-up camp for the night if you have your gear.

When you are ready to head back down the trail, take the Club Creek Trail for a change of scenery. Hike down the path and then merge onto the Beaver Meadows Trail, which will guide you below the treeline. Maintain along this route, ignoring merging routes. Continue hiking as the pathway weaves you between woodlands and open meadows. Trek along this trail as it intersects with Beartrack Creek on several occasions before delivering you back to the parking lot.
