Stone House and Great Knoutberry Hill Walk Description

Featuring a fairly steep climb up to the summit, the Stone House and Great Knoutberry Hill Walk can be a bit challenging at times, but you will be hard pressed to find better views overlooking the surrounding landscape within Yorkshire Dales National Park. A good portion of this walk follows along a quiet country road; however, this is counterbalanced by the rugged climb up to the dome-shaped summit that sits along the ridge known as Widdale Fell.

Setting out from the trailhead at the Dent Head Viaduct, you will make your way northwest along the road as it runs parallel to the River Dee. Once you have arrived at the charming village of Stone House, you will turn to the east to begin your climb uphill, passing underneath the Arten Gill Viaduct as you work your way up the hillside. Reaching the top of the ridge, you will turn to the north and make the brief climb up to the summit of Great Knoutberry Hill to enjoy sweeping views of the Yorkshire Dales. From here, turn back and follow the same trail on the return to the car park.
