Ancient Cedars Trail Description

The Ancient Cedars Trail is a beautiful route north of Whistler, British Columbia that travels along a scenic woodland trail to a grove of old-growth cedars trees. The trailhead is easily accessible from the Cougar Mountain Service Road in the summer but winter conditions can see the area blanketed in heavy snowfall, making it more difficult to reach. This route does have a bit of elevation gain, but being able to experience the beauty of the massive cedars at the trail’s end makes it worth the effort.

Setting out on the trail, follow the path to the right to make your way past the Ancient Cedars sign and uphill along the gravel trail. After 0.6mi, the trail will flatten out before descending a small hill. Here, the trail will exit onto a wider path at a junction near a creek. Go right at the junction to cross over the creek and climb back uphill, following the trail as it hooks left into the forest.

As you make your way uphill, you will pass a large rock and approach another junction just after it. The route to the left is a quick detour that offers a nice view out over a lake. Continue on the main trail, where you will shortly come upon a bridge. This marks the beginning of the loop through the spectacular grove of old-growth cedar trees. After making your way around the short loop, head back down the Ancient Cedars Trail to return to the starting position of your hike at the parking area.
