The North Erickson Lake Trail is a gorgeous route in the western Uintas. This trail is moderately challenging and can be done either as a day hike, or an overnight backpacking trip. Dogs are welcome to join you on the North Erickson Lake Trail, but must be kept on leash at all times.

Getting there

The North Erickson Lake Trail begins at the Ledgefork Campground at the south end of Smith and Morehouse Road, just east of Oakly, Utah.

North Erickson Lake Trail Description

The North Erickson Lake Trail is a scenic hike through the beautiful western Uinta wilderness. This trail is moderately challenging, with a few sections that are rugged and overgrown. We recommend bringing along a map and/or GPS unit to aid in navigation, especially if you are inexperienced with route finding. Once you find your way, the North Erickson Lake Trail is gorgeous. With forest flora and fauna abound, this trail is a great place to explore and enjoy the beauty of the natural world.

From the Ledgefork Trailhead at the Ledgefork Campground, follow the Smith and Morehouse Trail southeast along Smith and Morehouse Creek for 2.7mi to a divide. At the divide, take the Erickson Basin trail on your right to hike 2.3mi to North Erickson Lake.

Enjoy a rest on the shores of North Erickson Lake and take some time to explore the surrounding lakes and ponds before heading back to the trailhead the way you came.
