The hike to Fire Lake via the Crystal Lake Trailhead is a fantastic hike east of Park City Utah. This trail is great for both day hiking and overnight backpacking. Dogs are also welcome to join you on this trail, but must be kept on leash at the trailhead.

Getting there

From Kamas, Utah, head east along highway 150 for 24.6mi then take a left onto Forest Road 041. Continue along FR 041 to a divide, take a right then park at the Crystal Lake Trailhead parking lot just past the Washington Lake Campground. The Fire Lake via Crystal Lake Trail begins here.

Fire Lake via the Crystal Lake Trailhead Description

The hike to Fire Lake via the Crystal Lake Trailhead is a gorgeous route in the western Uinta Mountains. This hike is moderately challenging with undulating, rocky terrain. Be sure to wear proper, supportive hiking footwear and bring lots of water and snacks for your hike. It is important to note that there is no potable water available at the Washington Campground at the trailhead, so be sure to fill up your water bottles before leaving home. Whether you are heading out on this trail for a day hike or spending a night in the backcountry, the hike to Fire Lake via the Crystal Lake Trailhead is a fantastic route with incredible views of the Utah Wilderness. For an especially spectacular experience, we recommend heading out on this trail in the summertime when the alpine wildflowers are in full bloom.

Beginning at the Crystal Lake Trailhead, follow Lakes Country Trail 216 west along the north shore of Crystal Lake. Approximately a mile and a half west of Crystal Lake, you will reach Long Lake. Follow the south shore of Long Lake to continue your path west along Country Trail 216. At the western end of Long Lake, take the trail on your right. Stay right at the next divide to head northwest to Island Lake. From Island Lake, you can do a loop south to Fire Lake and Duck Lake, then head back north to Island Lake.

Back at Island Lake, you can either choose a scenic spot to set up camp or simply retrace your steps back to the Crystal Lake Trailhead where you began.
