Manzanita Lake Trail Description

Hiking the Manzanita Lake Trail makes for an excellent experience. Walk along the shores of the shimmering alpine lake, then trek along a makeshift bridge along the creek. Note some people choose to trek along the bridge, but the path is extremely narrow, so mind your footing, and we discourage children from climbing along this route. This trail is ideal for those seeking a good day of fishing away from the crowds. This path can also get extremely hot in the summer heat, so pack plenty of water and sun protection!

Setting out from the western shores of Manzanita Lake, the Manzanita Lake Trail wanders south along the lakeshore of the picture-perfect alpine pool. Eventually, you will reach the dirt route, which will divert you away from the lake and along North Fork Willow Creek. Follow this path through the lush vegetation decorated with wildflowers and along the drain tube covered with a makeshift bridge.

Continue hiking through the valley bounded by granite bluffs and lush trees, rewarding sparse views of the encompassing Sierra Nevada Mountains. You will ultimately reach the route’s end at Road 222—turnaround here and head back the way you came back to the lake.
