Lake Siskiyou Trail Description

The Lake Siskiyou is an incredible adventure awaiting exploration. Nestled amongst the summits of the Cascade Range, the scene of the alpine lake is unrivaled in its beauty. Offering countless adventure opportunities to indulge, this area is a happening spot—especially in the summer months! Expect to share the paths around the perimeter with like-minded explorers, including bikers and runners. If you are seeking a more tranquil experience, we encourage you to head out in the early morning. It is important to note the entire loop is only possible in the summer months when the Sacramento River’s delta is bridged (May-October), though section hikes are accessible year-round.

Those in search of an awesome day-hike will love the Lake Siskiyou Trail. Explore lush forestlands, wander across beautiful bridges, along shoreline cliffs, near busy golf courses, and over the dam. Exhibiting the diversity of the area’s flora and fauna and revealing the striking topographic diversity—this trek checks all the boxes. After wandering around the perimeter of the beautiful reservoir, cool off in the refreshing waters while reveling in the views of Mount Eddy, capped in snow. Hikers of all ages and skill levels will enjoy this epic excursion—trust us.

Though there are several trailheads, we departed from the trailhead and parking lot off WA Barr Road near the Mount Shasta Resort. Setting out from here, we headed in a clockwise direction, bearing left onto the Lake Siskiyou Trail- WA Barr Road Segment. This path will guide you southwest down to the Box Canyon Dam. Here, you will be granted impressive views of the craggy canyon below adorned with lush flora. Enjoy the scene of the dramatic corridor in the east and the sighs of the lake in the foreground of Mount Eddy in the west. From here, you will merge onto the Lake Siskiyou- Cable Beach Loop.

Follow this route southwest, connecting with the Lake Siskiyou Trail – Two Creek Segment. This section of the trail will guide you over Castle Lake Creek and Scott Camp Creek before diverting inland, along the Lake Siskiyou Trail – Campground. Eventually, you will be rerouted along the shoreline, taking the Lake Siskiyou Trail- Delta Segment past the boat launch. Before crossing the seasonal bridges over the Sacramento River, admire the distant views of Mount Shasta in the northeast. After crossing the bridge, you will be diverted east onto the Lake Siskiyou Trail- North Shore Segment, which will lead you through mixed forestlands along the lake.

Enjoy the scene of the busy lake abundant with adventurers, and hook onto the Lake Siskiyou Trail- Wagon Creek Bridge Segment at the next junction. Hike across the cool bridge, admiring the scene of the bounding verdant mountains and distant snow-dusted craggy peaks. From here, the shoreline trail will redirect you south, ultimately delivering you back to the trailhead and carpark. If time and weather permit, head back down to the beach for a swim. If not, you have marked the end of your adventure around the scenic Lake Siskiyou.
