Sharkstooth Pass Trail

The Sharkstooth Pass Trail is a short but challenging hiking route in the San Juan Mountains that will lead you up to a pass at 11936ft. While out on the trail, you will hike through a serene woodland landscape, before breaking free of the tree cover on the steep but scenic climb up to Sharkstooth Pass. Hikers should take note that the road leading into the trailhead is very rugged and should only be attempted with a 4x4 high clearance vehicle during dry weather.
Getting there
The Sharkstooth Pass Trailhead can be found along Forest Service Road 346, 20.1mi northeast of Mancos, Colorado.

Sharkstooth Pass Trail Description
Although it is quite a short hiking route, the Sharkstooth Pass Trail is an exceptional adventure for those who want to experience the breathtaking terrain of the San Juan Mountains without the need for planning a full-day excursion.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will head to the southeast and begin climbing uphill through the forest, while taking in the peaceful atmosphere of your woodland surroundings. Eventually, you will break free of the tree cover to enjoy some scenic mountain views on the final push up to the pass.
Here, you will traverse some rugged terrain with loose rocks underfoot, working your way through a series of switchbacks to arrive at Sharkstooth pass. After taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding San Juan Mountains, carefully head back down along the same trail to return to the trailhead.
