The Bonneville Shoreline Trail: Emigration Canyon Road to City Creek is a gorgeous route shared by hikers, bikers, and trail-runners. This point-to-point hike is dog-friendly and gives you a beautiful view of the city. For an especially wonderful experience, we recommend trying this hike in June and July when the wildflowers are in full bloom.
Getting there
This trail begins at the Bonneville Shoreline Trail trailhead in Pioneer State Park on the north side of Emigration Canyon Road, across from the Hogle Zoo. The end of this trail is at the City Creek Trailhead located at the end of Bonneville Boulevard.

The hike from Emigration Canyon to City Creek via the Bonneville Shoreline trail is a fantastic route for hikers, bikers, and trail runners. This trail is dog-friendly and a great spot to get some exercise with your favorite four-legged friend. This route gets a lot of sun and can really heat up in the summertime; if you are heading out in July or August, be sure to layer on the sunscreen and bring along lots of water, especially if you are hiking with a pup. This section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail gets quite muddy and icy in the winter and in spring, if you are hiking at that time of year, proper footwear and traction devices are strongly recommended.
No matter when you hit the trails, however, the hike from Emigration Canyon to City Creek is beautiful. This trail is well-maintained and gives you fantastic views of Salt Lake City and the surrounding landscape.
From the trailhead across from the zoo, head up the incline and follow the Bonneville Shoreline Trail as it winds northwest. There are lots of trails that intersect the Bonneville Shoreline Trail as it makes its way from Emigration Canyon to City Creek. These trails can make fun side-quests but look for signage and stick to a map if you want to stay on the main route.
Follow the Bonneville Shoreline Trail past the Utah Natural History Museum, The Red Butte Gardens, and the University of Utah Campus before finding yourself at City Creek.
