Divide Meadow Loop Description

Leading you through scenic landscapes, the Divide Meadow Loop would be a great addition to your California hiking itinerary. Travel over the San Andreas Fault and into the woodlands, keeping an eye out for elk along the way! Note: this area is prone to foggy conditions – especially in the morning – so we encourage you to wear a raincoat to avoid getting wet from the dew drops. Expect to see others along this beautiful route! If you are seeking a more secluded experience, we encourage you to head out in the early morning to beat the crowds.

Begin your adventure along the Divide Meadow Loop from the Bear Valley Trailhead. From here, follow the Bear Valley Trail south to the Bear Valley Creek. This path will divert southwest, guiding you through the valley to pass tree stands and open meadows often decorated with elk. Eventually, you will reach an intersection with the Meadow Trail. Veer right here and you will be guided west up an incline and through the tall brush. At the top of this trail, you will be granted distant views of the ocean. Take some time to enjoy the scenery, then turn right onto the Mount Wittenburg Trail.

This route will redirect you east, heading downhill and through the woodlands. Wander down the winding terrain to eventually arrive back at an intersection with the Bear Valley Trail. Veer left here and retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
