Mount Wittenburg and Bear Valley Loop Description

Leading you through lush meadows, forested valleys, grassy headlands, and up to the summit of Mount Wittenburg, there is no shortage of scenery to indulge in along this trek. Traveling over diverse terrain types that are often uneven with obstructing roots and rocks is tricky business, so we encourage hikers to wear a pair of sturdy footwear—you’ll thank us later! Additionally, the coastal weather is often chilly, windy, and foggy, so dress in layers to be prepared for anything! Note: elk are sometimes observed along this route; if you encounter one, be sure to keep your distance as they can be aggressive creatures.

Embark on your adventure along the Mount Wittenburg and Bear Valley Loop from the trailhead. Setting out from here, you will be guided south along the Bear Valley Trail before encountering an intersection. Veer right here and you will be diverted onto the Mount Wittenburg Trail, following it west up the incline to the summit of Mount Wittenburg. From here, you will be granted distant views of the Pacific Ocean. At this point, follow the leftmost Sky Trail briefly before turning onto the Woodward Valley Trail at the next intersection. This route will guide you to the coastal cliffs. Veer left here and track southeast along the Coast Trail.

Marvel in the beauty of the ocean panoramas and the pristine beaches that stretch along the coastline. Eventually, you will reach a trail junction with the Bear Valley Trail. Hook onto this path and follow it all the way back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.
