South Beach Trail Description

This route can be enjoyed by the whole family, including your pup! You must take advantage, as this is one of the few places that dogs are allowed on leash! Wander along the sandy shoreline of the Pacific coast, admiring the scenes of the dramatic headlands that bound the ocean. Note: this area sees extremely windy and foggy conditions, so dress accordingly! Additionally, you may see an elephant seal lounging—keep your dog away and give the incredible creature plenty of distance so as to not disturb them.

Setting out from the parking lot, take the footpath signposted for the South Beach Access. From here the path will open to the vast shoreline that stretches for miles in either direction. Turn left and begin hiking southwest. Dip your toes in the chilly saltwater or hike along the base of the shoreline cliffs. Take some time to revel in the views of the surf, keeping an eye out for migrating whales in the distance.

Wander along the beach until you can’t anymore! When you are through enjoying the pristine beach, retrace your steps northeast to return back at the parking lot.
