The Warkworth and River Coquet Circular Walk is a quick and easy route in Northumberland that will take you on a riverside loop to view an historic castle. While out walking the trail, you will follow along the winding banks of the River Coquet, before looping around to visit the 12th Century ruins of Warkworth Castle on the return leg. The short distance and easy to navigate terrain along this route make it a perfect option for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

For those adventurers that are only after a short walking route, but want to be impressed with scenic views and fascinating historical sites, the Warkworth and River Coquet Circular Walk will offer just what you are looking for.

Setting out from the trailhead near the Church of St Lawrence, you will make your way to the southwest along The Stanners, keeping right at the fork to continue alongside the River Coquet. Here, you will be able to relax in a peaceful riverside setting, as you stroll through a lovely stretch of wood along the water’s edge.

Eventually, you will meet up with a quiet road and follow it to the southwest for a distance, before picking up a footpath on your left that skirts the edge of a field. After making your way back towards Warkworth, you will have an amazing view of the 12th Century ruins of Warkworth Castle, passing by the imposing structure as you work your way back towards the trailhead where you began.
