The Allenheads and Byerhope Bank Walk is a great walking route in Northumberland, UK that will take you through a variety of terrain including forests and open moorland. While out walking the trail, you will leave behind the village of Allenheads and climb uphill to traverse a small wood, before crossing the rugged expanse of moor and looping around for a return along the banks of the River East Allen. Be sure to keep your dog on a lead, as you will likely encounter some sheep roaming on the grassy moorland.

For those looking to experience a good variety of terrain on their next adventure in Northumberland, the Allenheads and Byerhope Bank Walk is a great option to do so. This fun journey will lead you through the forests and moors surrounding a former lead mining community, offering a chance to take in some nice views of sheep grazing on the undulating landscape of the surrounding hills.

Setting out from the village of Allenheads, you will make your way to the east along the road in order to climb uphill, before heading north through a tranquil stretch of woodland terrain, after exiting the tree cover, you will traverse the open moorland and take in the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

Once you have made your way downhill, you will cross over the River East Allen and follow its winding banks south on the return leg of the walk. Take some time to enjoy the relaxing riverside setting, before arriving back in the village where you can pop into the Allenheads Inn or Hemmel Cafe for some post-walk refreshments.
