Whitby Hawsker Circular Walk Description

If you are after stunning coastal scenery and the chance to view the beautiful and imposing ruins of Whitby Abbey – a stone monastery that overlooks the North Sea and has its origins in the 7th Century – then you will certainly want to explore the Whitby Hawsker Circular Walk. This route can get quite busy, so be sure to arrive early if you want to enjoy the trail on your own.

Setting out from the trailhead next to Whitby Bridge, you will head north along the city streets, before turning to the east to climb uphill past the abbey. Here, you will have some amazing views of the large stone structure that serves as a commanding landmark from both land and sea before continuing along the trail as it turns toward the coast.

Follow along the rugged coastal trail to the southeast and enjoy the wonderfully scenic views across the North Sea, before turning inland towards the village of Hawsker. From here, you will make your way to the northwest, traversing the open countryside to cross over the River Esk and pass through Whitby on the return to the trailhead.
