Walking the Cropton Round is a great activity in the North York Moors that features a variety of terrain and is suitable for walkers of almost every skill level. While out on the trail, you will traverse the open countryside before passing through a charming stretch of woodland terrain along the River Seven, enjoying fairly flat terrain except for the one steep climb towards the end of the walk. While this trail offers a number of opportunities for off-leash dog walking, you will need to exercise caution in areas where livestock are present.

The Cropton Round Walk Description

If you enjoy relaxing forest walks that are complimented by sweeping views across the picturesque English countryside, then The Cropton Round Walk will be a fantastic option to get you onto the trail and enjoying the outdoors. There is a small amount of elevation gain along the route, as well as some varied terrain, so be sure to wear proper footwear.

Setting out from the trailhead in Cropton, you will head south along the road and past The New Inn, bearing right shortly after it in order to cut across the open countryside. After exploring these beautiful farmlands that make up the southern edge of North York Moors National Park, you will descend through the forest to reach the banks of the River Seven.

From here, you will turn to the north and make your way through the tranquil forest setting, following along the winding banks of the river to eventually pass by the historic Cropton Mill. Continue on to the northeast to exit to the tree cover, turning to the east in order to climb uphill. From here, you will once again traverse the open countryside on the return into Cropton.
