The hike to Otter Falls is a 8.2mi heavily trafficked out-and-back trail in Mount-Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest that is rated as moderate. This hike uses the Snoqualmie Lake Trail to access Otter Falls, a unique waterfall in the forest near Lipsy Lake. We recommend doing this hike in the spring when the water flow is more impressive, as well as bringing bug spray along on the trail.

Otter Falls Hike Description

Otter Falls is a unique waterfall, with water flowing down a broad rock face. This waterfall is at its best in the springtime when increased snowmelt and rain makes it even more majestic. The hike there is nice and shaded, but there can be bothersome bugs and some rocky sections to navigate. Good boots and bug spray will go a long way.

The hike begins from the end of the road, immediately crossing Taylor River and heading north on Snoqualmie Lake Trail. Keep right at the junction with Quartz Creek Trail, continuing to hike near the river. Cross several streams, easy enough to do without getting your feet wet, as you steadily gain elevation.

After crossing Marten Creek, the trail evens out a bit. After two more stream crossings, you’ll reach the junction with Otter Falls Trail on your left, just south of Lipsy Lake. Take this little path on the left, which leads you to the falls. Once you’re ready to return, go back the same way you came.
