Mount Dickerman Trail is a moderately trafficked out-and-back trail in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest that is rated as difficult. This hike is recommended for more experienced hikers not for any technical difficulty, but for its relentless nature. The entire ascent is on very steep, seemingly endless switchbacks. The views from the top will reward you, though!

Mount Dickerman Trail Description

Mount Dickerman Trail is a demanding hike, with countless steep, rocky switchbacks to take on. This hike is suitable for very fit hikers and requires that you bring in all the water you will require (and you will require plenty), as there are no sources on the way. From the top, great views of Mount Baker and Mount Rainier await.

The hike begins right off Mountain Loop Highway at the signed trailhead. Cross a small creek and then nearly immediately begin to aggressively switchback through the forest. The views for the first while are uninspiring, but you’ll likely be focused on retaining your will to continue, anyway.

A small clearing offers a brief view, but then it’s back into the trees to keep zig-zagging up. At about 4446ft, there is a junction with a connector trail, but we don’t recommend taking it as it’s essentially straight up.

The final summit push gives splendid views, so get your rest in as you admire them before making the steep, steep descent to the trailhead via the same route.
