Kaleetan Peak Trail is a 10.5mi moderately trafficked out and back trail in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest that is rated as difficult. This trail is recommended for experienced hikers due to a Class 3 scramble required on the way to the lofty peak. A helmet is strongly recommended for this scramble.

Families frequent the trailhead to see the waterfall, so we recommend arriving early to secure parking.

Kaleetan Peak Trail Description

Kaleetan Peak is a trail for strong hikers, and those taking it on should be prepared for a Class 3 scramble. While the views from the summit are undeniably fantastic, proper precautions should be taken, including the use of helmets in areas prone to rockfall from groups above.

The trail starts from Denny Creek Campground, heading north past The Slide to Melakwa Lake. Take a breather here, and notice how the trail traffic significantly drops off as you climb away from the lakeshore.

A steep, unrelenting climb takes you up to a false summit, from where you’ll traverse the ridge to Kaleetan Peak. The ridge drops down into a scree field which makes for tricky footing. Don your helmet and take your time on the loose, rocky scramble to the summit, remembering that you can turn around and try another day if it’s too much.

When you’ve had your fill of the panoramic views, retrace your steps down to the lake and then the trailhead, taking it slow as you downclimb the scramble.
