Crystal Lake Trail Description

Crystal Lake Trail is a popular route within Inyo National Forest, and because of this, we recommend starting the route earlier in the morning so as to avoid the larger crowds that often develop later in the day. The trail is also fairly steep in sections, and while it is appropriate for all skill levels, it can become rather slippery if any snow is on the ground.

Crystal Lake Trail is an excellent choice for your next hiking adventure simply because of how accessible and family friendly it is. While longer, more challenging routes can be lots of fun for the right people, sometimes it’s nice to just enjoy a straightforward trail that doesn’t take up your entire day. Crystal Lake Trail is also an excellent place to view wildlife, and boasts incredible views throughout its duration.

Having arrived at the trailhead, follow the Crystal Lake Trail northeast. Almost immediately, the trail veers sharply to the southeast and begins to incline in elevation. With George Lake visible to the west, the Crystal Lake Trail will then turn into a series of switchbacks to help aid you in your incline of the elevation.

With the switchback portion of the route completed, you will arrive at a junction within the trail. At the junction, stay on Crystal Lake Trail by taking the western pathway. A few hundred feet after the junction, the elevation incline will taper off, and the trail will deliver you to beautiful Crystal Lake. Enjoy the scenery and maybe stop for a picnic before backtracking your steps towards the trailhead.
