Rocky Point Trail is a majestic hike through the forest that reminds you of the damage done by countless wildfires that scorched a portion of Glacier National Park. Wisps of trees stand tall in front of Lake McDonald before the soaring mountains that surround you. This hike is unique in its history as most of the journey shows the damage done mostly by the Robert Fire that burned through almost 40,000 acres.

Rocky Point Trail Description

Rocky Point Trail is a stunning but reality-inducing reminder of the wildfires that have claimed so many acres of land. Most of the damage before you is from the Robert Fire that burned through almost 40,000 acres of land. It is amazing how after so much hardship, nature can rebuild itself and preserve its intense beauty.

The Rocky Point Trail begins at the North Fork Road, and shortly into the hike you will cross Fern Creek and turn left. At 0.6mi, you will reach the loop and should take the small side trail to see the incredible views of the West side of Rocky Point and Lake McDonald. When you come to 1.2mi in the trail, you will see the Lake McDonald Trail junction and you need to turn left. At 0.2mi further, you will exit the loop and begin heading back to the trailhead.
