Red Eagle Lake Trail is a beautiful hike that takes you through beautiful scenery and stunning mountains. The trail was burned by a fire that occured in 2006, so a hike through here on a sunny day means plenty of vitamin D—bring your sunscreen. After a fairly easy hike, you will see why this is such a popular trail as you gaze up at Curly Bear, Split, Red Eagle and Norris Mountain and Red Eagle Peak.

Red Eagle Lake Trail Description

Red Eagle Lake Trail is a beautiful hike through the forest that leads to stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trail begins at St. Mary Lake and leads you through the forest, and takes you through beautiful fields of colourful wildflowers. After hiking for 2 miles, you will reach the area of the wildfire that burned through Glacier National Park in 2006, which provides very little shade. There is also an abundance of berries on this trail in the summer, so keep an eye out for bears roaming nearby.

5.0mi into the hike, you will reach a junction with the St. Mary Trail; keep left to continue on the Red Eagle Lake Trail. At this point, you will begin to see the mountain peaks, such as Curly Bear and Red Eagle Mountain. At 7.5mi, you will find Red Eagle Lake, and once you are finished soaking up the views, head back the way you came as this is an out-and-back trail.
