Panorama Peak Hike Description
Panorama Peak Hike is an exciting excursion through the Roosevelt National Forest. Hike up the wide dirt road up to the summit of Panorama Peak and over to The Notch Mountain. This wonderful trail can be enjoyed in several different ways, off-roading, hiking, biking or snowshoeing in the winter months! It is worth noting that there will be passing vehicles as you hike up this path—some going fast. Be mindful of the off-roaders and do your best to hike up the shoulder of the road for your safety, and those of the off-roaders. Though this hike passes through the woodlands, the path is wide enough for the sun to penetrate, ensure to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water on warm summer days!
Begin your journey up the Panorama Peak Trail from the gate at the end of the Pole Hill Road. Park at the gate and begin your adventure up the FDR trail. These forest development trails are plentiful so you can get turned around easily, we recommend bringing along the trail GPS to mitigate the possibility of getting lost. Hike up the FDR road and ignore the intersecting paths until you meet the junction with FDR 277. Turn right and take this trail to the summit of Panorama Peak.
Enjoy the increasable vistas of the Front Range, including Mummy Range, and then take FDR 247B northwest. Hike along the path as it merges into FDR 247D and begins ascending towards The Notch Mountain.
Hike the wooded path up to the summit by way of FDR 122A Trail. Ascend the summit and revel in the mountainous landscape that hems the valleyed forests below. Descend the mountain and trek down the dirt road. At this point, you will meet back up with the FDR road that will guide you back to the parking lot.
