Old Mill Hike Description

The Old Mill Trail is a scenic adventure through Staunton State Park. If you are seeking a fairly undemanding nature walk, then the Old Mill Hike may be your best bet. Packing just the right amount of scenery and strenuity, this path is a wonderful day hike. Staunton State Park is a popular weekend adventure for Coloradans. If you are hoping to avoid the crowds then we would suggest early morning, weekday adventures. Visitors will also have to pay $10USD to access the trails.

Begin your Old Mill Hiking adventure from the Staunton Ranch Trailhead. Trek northwest along the meadow laden path. Travel this route until you meet an intersection. At the junction, stay straight on the Staunton Ranch Trail. Hike through the aspen groves that line the base of a towering craggy cliff. Soon the route will merge into a service road. Trek along the service road until you encounter an intersection with the Borderline Trail. Turn right and ascend the rocky terrain. The Borderline Trail will guide you to the Staunton Ranch lookout. Admire the breathtaking views of the Front Range peaks before continuing your hike.

Follow the Borderline Trail to Old Mill. At the mill, veer right down the Old Mill Trail. The Old Mill Trail will lead you down a forested gulch and past granite outcroppings before delivering you back to the Staunton Ranch Trail. Turn left and retrace your steps along the Staunton Ranch Trail back to the Trailhead.
