The Griffin Memorial Hike is a historical adventure up to a memorial. Scramble up the rocky terrain past caves, old shacks, and rusted remnants of mine shafts. The trail culminates at the Griffin Memorial on the cliff’s edge. Legend has it a local by the name of Clifford Griffin was playing fiddle one night, sitting on the cliff’s edge, when a gunshot marked the end of the song. To this day no one knows the real story, but the shot is attributed to himself or his brother.

Griffin Memorial Hike Description

Travel back in time as you ascend the Griffin Memorial Trail. Hike amongst historical mine remnants that line the path. Explore the caves, shafts and equipment that preserve the mining history in Silver Plume, Colorado. Note this trail ascends steep, narrow, rocky terrain. We recommend sturdy hiking shoes to avoid a rolled ankle and consider trekking poles to help you navigate the vertigo inducing route. There is no doubt in our mind that outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike will be impressed by this unique hike.

Begin your adventure from the 7:30 Mine Trailhead. Hike up the cliff’s edge along the 7:30 Mine Trail. Ascend the route and revel in the amount of mining equipment that dots the path. You will meet the trail’s end at the Griffin Memorial Monument on the cliff’s edge. Read the story etched into the stone and admire the grandeur of the forested valley below.
