Echo Lake Trail Description

Grab your sneakers and set out on the Echo Lake Trail. Short and scenic, this adventure will get your legs as you adventure into the fresh alpine air. Located at the bottom of the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, Echo Lake Park is a popular spot. We recommend arriving early to secure a parking spot. In the summer months, the weekends tend to be the busiest, consider a weekday adventure to avoid the crowds. No matter if it’s packed or desolate, the Echo Lake Trail is a fun excursion. On your next adventure up the Scenic Byway, stop in at the Echo Lake Park and walk the Echo Lake Trail, you won’t regret it.

Walk the Echo Lake Trail and you will be exposed to unforgettable views of Mount Evans and its neighboring craggy peaks in the background. Walk the well-maintained path around the lake in the summer, and snowshoe it in the winter. One of the best parts about this trail is that there is a restaurant at the halfway mark. Take a well-deserved break at the Echo Lake Lodge Restaurant prior to heading back. Whether you are on the trail as a connector to a longer excursion or simply hiking the Echo Lake Trail in itself, this walk is one for the books.

Departing from the Echo Lake Park Parking Lot, head south on the Echo Lake Trail. Shortly after you begin this adventure you will encounter a junction. At the intersection, stay left on the Echo Lake Trail. Follow along the trail as it guides you under tree coverage. Walk along the forested path lined with impressive pine trees. Hike on the soft forest floor, minding the odd root and rocks.

Track along the west side of Echo Lake and enjoy the striking views of Mount Evans and its neighboring peaks in the south. Hike along the path as it guides you away from the shores of Echo Lake. Weaving between tree coverage and meadows, the route will eventually culminate at the Echo Lake Lodge Restaurant.

Grab a bite to eat or simply enjoy the expansive views that the end of the trail delivers. See the snow-dusted peaks that hem the subalpine forests below and bask in its postcard worthy beauty.

After enjoying a snack or a rest, retrace your steps along the path all the way back to the parking lot.
