Pierce Lake Trail Description
The Pierce Lake Trail is a popular hiking route in the Fraser Valley that climbs steeply uphill to visit two stunning mountain lakes. This is a challenging hike that packs 5138ft of elevation gain over the course of the trail, making it a bit tough on the legs and a test of your endurance. Make sure to wear proper hiking footwear and bring hiking poles for the descent to lessen the impact on your knees. Additionally, the area around the lakes is a popular spot for overnight camping up in the mountains. Any hikers wishing to do so should remember to pack out anything that they bring in as there are no facilities in the area.
Setting out on the trailhead next to Chilliwack Lake Road, follow the trail as it climbs uphill at a steep incline alongside Pierce Creek. The route will pass through a series of switchbacks before crossing over the creek and pushing on to Lower Pierce Lake. As you pass by the serene waters of the lake on your right, you will also have views of Mount Pierce on your right as you continue to work your way uphill to the upper lake. When you reach Upper Pierce Lake, take some time to explore the area and take in the spectacular sights. There is also an optional trail that leads west on a scramble up Mount MacFarlane for those looking to extend their adventure. After you’ve taken in the views, head back down the Pierce Lake Trail to return to your car below.
