Ceran Saint Vrain Trail Description

The Ceran Saint Vrain Trail is a beloved hike, and there is no question as to why. The magical nature walk will transport its adventurers to another world. The rainforest-esque ecosystem will make you forget you find yourself in the foothills of Colorado’s Front Range. Immerse yourself in the wilderness and keep an eye out for wildlife camouflaged amongst the trees. If you have little ones or a pup with you, best to keep them near as moose abundant in this area. If you do encounter wildlife, be sure to give them plenty of space and do your best not to bother them. Some hikers choose to wear a bear bell as extra insurance to deter unwanted visitors. Note most of the trail travels along a ridge above the river, so mind your footing in the winter months when the path can be slippery. The undulating path is a wonderful excursion that you are not going to want to miss out on.

The easy-to-navigate terrain, tree shade, and limited elevation change enable this trek to be ventured by hikers of almost all skill levels—children included! Winter, summer, fall or spring, all you must change to trek this versatile trail year-round is your shoes! Explore the wilderness, reconnect with nature and get out into the fresh air, away from screens, along the Ceran Saint Vrain Trail. This adventure is a must-add to your Boulder/ foothills itinerary.

Begin your journey along the Ceran Saint Vrain Trail from the trailhead and parking lot off Overland Road. From here, take the Ceran Saint Vrain Trail north. Soon after your departure, you will cross a bridge over the creek, taking you to the west side of the Saint Vrain. The path will immediately begin to gradually descend the forested valley along the river. Enjoy the sights of the towering timbers and the sounds of the gurgling waters. Gently undulating, the route will guide you along a ridge towering above the creek, giving you an epic view of the gulch below. Mind your footing as you travel along the ridges. Shared with mountain bikers and horseback riders, it is also important to keep an ear out for them as they pass you by.

Eventually, the route will guide you across a bridge over another small creek. From the bridge, you will be granted a lovely view of Saint Vrain Creek. Many people rest here and let their pup rehydrate before beginning the final leg of the trek. Enjoy the meander through the enchanting pine forest interspersed with aspens and appreciate the sparse large outcroppings that add variety to the scenery. Not long after crossing the bridge, you will confront your turn-around spot at the intersection with the Miller Rock Trail. If you still have some energy left in the reserves, consider hiking up to the summit of Miller Rock which exhibits epic vistas of the Front Range peaks and verdant woodlands. When you are done exploring, simply retrace your footing along the route all the way back to the trailhead, marking the end to your magical forestland adventure.
