The Mount Zion via Lower Winter Creek Trail Loop is a physically demanding Southern California adventure that features waterfall and mountain views. While out on the trail, you will make your way through the Santa Anita Canyon to Sturtevant Falls, before climbing uphill to the summit of Mount Zion. Make sure to display a valid adventure pass in your vehicle prior to beginning your excursion.

This trail is currently closed due to the recent Bobcat Wildfire.

If you are hoping to experience the natural beauty of the Angeles National Forest and don’t mind hiking a more strenuous trail, then the Mount Zion via Lower Winter Creek Trail Loop is the perfect route for you to explore.

Setting out from the Chantry Flats Parking Area, you will make your way to the northeast until you arrive at a junction in the trail next to the banks of Big Santa Anita Creek. Keep right here and follow the water’s edge to the north until you arrive at the site of Sturtevant Falls.

After taking in the beauty of the falls, the route will continue on to the northwest along Sturtevant trail, before turning more directly south to climb to the summit of Mount Zion. From here, you will descend to the south past Hoegee’s Camp, before turning southeast on the return into the trailhead where you began your adventure.
