The Grand Wash Trail via the Northeast Trailhead is one of the most popular trails in Capitol Reef National Park. This hike is relatively easy, well-marked, and well maintained. The hike begins at the Grand Wash Trailhead on the south side of highway 24, 4.5ft down from the Capitol Reef Visitors Center.

The Grand Wash Trail is a great hike that is tons of fun for the whole family. This hike is one of the most popular trails in Capitol Reef National Park, so be sure to arrive early in the day to beat the crowds and snag a parking spot at the trailhead. The Grand Wash Trail is most commonly done as an out-and-back route, but it can also be hiked one way by leaving a shuttle vehicle down at the Cassidy Arch Trailhead, where this Grand Wash Trail ends. This hike does have shady sections as it winds its way through the canyon but still be prepared to battle the desert sun with proper sun protection and lots of water.
If you have adventurous kids or just love exploring cool rock formations yourself, this is the perfect hike for you. The Grand Wash Trail has so many cool geological features to climb and clamber on, and you might even be lucky enough to see desert wildlife along the way.
From the Northeast trailhead, follow the well-marked path southwest for 2.3mi. After this length, you will reach a divide, take a left, to end at the Cassidy Trailhead or turn around to head back up to the Grand Wash Trailhead where you began.
If you want to explore more in the area, check out the Cassidy Trail that begins at the end of this route. The Cassidy Trail leads you a short distance to Cassidy Arch, a formation named after the infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy who hid out from the law in the Utah desert.
