Lion Gulch Hike Description
The Lion Gulch Trail is a beautiful adventure through the Colorado Wilderness. This rocky path will intersect with the Lion Gulch stream on several occasions as you track up towards the homestead. There are no bridges along the stream crossings, but there are plenty of rocks to use as a pathway and the water is shallow. We recommend wearing shoes with traction to help navigate the likely slippery rocks that line the creek. Though scenic, there are steep segments of the path with technical terrain. Use caution and mind your footing as you ascend the woodland valley.
Embark on your excursion up the Lions Gulch Hike from the trailhead. Take the path signposted for Lion Gulch Trail as it drops down to a stream crossing. Hike up the forested gulch and enjoy the meditative sounds of the babbling creek. Hike up the increasingly rocky and steep terrain. As you travel up the woodland path the tree shade will become increasingly sparse. As you ascend the timberline, you will notice the homestead sign. Follow the Lion Gulch Trail to the 1914 Walker Homestead.
Explore the log homestead and enjoy the encompassing views. When you are set, retrace your steps back down the gulch to the trailhead.
