Little Roseberry and Great Ayton Moor Walk Description
Featuring gorgeous views across North York Moors National Park, the Little Roseberry and Great Ayton Moor Walk is a relatively easy adventure that will even give you an insight into an interesting part of World War Two history.
Setting out from the car park, you will head to the north and climb uphill across the moor to reach the beautifully scenic viewpoint atop Little Roseberry. After taking in the sweeping views across the North Yorkshire landscape, you will head to the east and descend the hillside slightly before turning south across the moor.
Here, you will find the control bunker for the Gisborough Moor Starfish Site, where large tanks of flammable liquid were periodically set alight during WW2 in order to trick German Luftwaffe pilots into bombing the surrounding moor instead of nearby cities.
After checking out this interesting historical site, continue on along the trail leading southeast, before making your way west along the hillside to cross over Lonsdale Beck. Once you are across the stream, head down the hill to the southwest to return to the trailhead where you began.
