Hike along the Hope-Nicola Valley Trail to experience the natural beauty and historic sites of Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park. While on this scenic route you will pass through beautiful forests and hike alongside the Coquihalla River as it cuts through the canyon. You can also spend some time exploring the historic Othello Tunnels - just make sure to arrive early to beat the crowds.
Getting there
To get to the parking area for the Hope-Nicola Valley Trail from Hope, head northeast on Kawkawa Lake Road for 1.7mi and make a right turn onto Othello Road. Make another right after 2789ft to stay on the road and follow it for another 1.4mi. Turn right onto Tunnels Road and keep straight until you reach the parking area.

The Hope-Nicola Valley Trail is a 3.5mi loop through Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park that climbs through a beautiful stretch of forest and alongside the Coquihalla River as it flows through the scenic canyon. The route begins and ends at the Othello Tunnels, a series of old railway tunnels that were once blasted into the rocky landscape. This area is extremely popular with tourists, so it is best to arrive early to secure parking; although most people will likely just explore the area around the tunnels, meaning you won’t be cramped for space along the majority of this scenic hiking trail. This route is a perfect blend of scenic views, historical sites, and non-technical terrain, making it an ideal trail for a fun family excursion near Hope, BC.
