Hiking the Fish Lake Trail won’t take long, but it makes for the perfect family walk from the Fish Lake Campground. This might not be a bucket list pitstop along the David Thompson Highway, but it’s sure worth the walk when staying at the Fish Lake Campground of the Frontier Lodge. The trail is perfect for families or those with a time limit.

Fish Lake Trail Description
Although it’s called the Fish Lake Trail, the route circumnavigates Shunda Lake. The lake goes by both names and is heavily stocked with rainbow trout. The campground hosts 100 sites, and the lake area is popular amongst weekenders. The lake is accessible to motorized boats, so be aware as this popular spot can be noisy.
From one of the many day-use parking areas with public washrooms, find the trail on the shore of the lake and hike counterclockwise, creating a 2.9mi loop around the lake before returning to the parking area. Bring your fishing rod and hope for the best!
