Ribblehead Walk Description

A beautifully scenic walk through the picturesque countryside of the Yorkshire Dales, the Ribblehead Walk is the perfect way to get acquainted with some of the most wonderful settings that can be found in the region. From rugged mountain peaks looming overhead to scenic railway bridges and the open terrain of the moor, you will have plenty to look at on this leisurely stroll through the countryside.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the northwest to take in the amazing sight of the Ribblehead Viaduct that was constructed between 1869-1874. Featuring 24 arches and measuring 440m long by 32m high, it is the longest structure and the third tallest along the Settle to Carlisle Line.

From the viaduct, you will follow the rail line to the northeast under the shadow of Whernside until you arrive at a small tunnel. Turn back here and keep right to make your way around a loop that offers an alternate way back to the trailhead. After traversing the open countryside, you will arrive back at the car park where you began the Ribblehead Walk.
