Middleham Gallops Walk Description

Whether you are looking to explore the natural beauty of the countryside or travel back in time by visiting historical ruins, the Middleham Gallops Walk is an amazing trail for all ages and skill levels.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way through the town towards the southwest to pass by the extravagant ruins of Middleham Castle. This impressive building was built in the late 12th Century and was the childhood home of King Richard III, although he never really spent much time there.

From here, you will turn to the west and cross over the road, before traversing the open countryside just outside of Middleham. After taking in the beautiful views and reaching the end point of the trail, you can simply turn back and retrace your steps past the castle and into town.
