The Janet’s Foss, Gordale Scar, and Malham Cove Walk is a beautiful excursion in Yorkshire Dales National Park that provides stunning views of several natural highlights. Along the trail, you will make your way through the countryside to visit the serene Janetr’s Foss Waterfall before exploring the immense limestone rock formations of Gordale Scar and Malham Cove. This walk can be a bit busy during the summer, which is completely understandable, as the views along the trail are spectacular!

Getting there

To get to the trailhead for the Janet’s Foss, Gordale Scar, and Malham Cove Walk from Settle, drive east along High Hill Lane for 1.3mi and turn left onto Black Gill Lane, following it for 1.6mi. Turn left onto Grains Lane and keep on for 3.1mi, turning left to enter the car park.

The walk to Janet’s Foss, Gordale Scar, and Malham Cove is a very popular excursion in the southern part of Yorkshire Dales National Park that will allow you to appreciate the natural beauty and diversity of the landscape in this stunning part of England.

The overall length of this walk is a modest 4.9mi; however, there are some sections of uphill walking through the dales that offer a bit of fun and excitement throughout the trail. After visiting the picturesque flowing waters of the Janet’s Foss Waterfall, the more adventurous part of the walk begins, as you will meander through the scenic landscape of the dales towards several dramatic limestone rock formations.

Following the waters of Gordale Beck, you will walk through the rock-lined ravine of Gordale Scar to take in the natural beauty of its immense structure. From here, you will head northwest and climb uphill to arrive at the horseshoe-shaped formation of Malham Cove that provides stunning views of the surrounding terrain. After taking in the sights, a brief downhill walk along Malham Beck will bring you back to the village.
