Ingleborough NNR Walk Description

If you are after a fun, educational day on the trails so that the entire family can enjoy the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales, then the Ingleborough NNR Circular Walk is a great option to do so. Featuring well-maintained paths that are easy to traverse and navigate, this lengthy route can be utilized by walkers of every age and skill level.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will initially head to the northeast along the road until you reach the Ribblehead rail station, at which point, you will head to the southeast to break away from the road on a route that will take you across the countryside on the easter edge of the nature reserve. Take some time to appreciate the beautiful views of Ingleborough to the east, as you pass through some small woodland areas and eventually meet back up with the road.

Follow this south for a short distance before breaking away to the southwest to begin climbing uphill across the rocky and rugged terrain of the moor. Eventually, you will reach a point just below the summit of Ingleborough that offers the chance to take a quick detour to the top. Whether you choose to take this quick detour or not, the views overlooking the park from this elevated position are amazing. From here, you will descend the opposite slope of the mountain and make your way downhill through the village of Chapel le Dale to return to the trailhead.
